Scullion Architects were asked to extend this terraced house in Ranelagh, South Dublin City. The plot is narrow and long, with a south-east facing garden to the rear. The owners found that they needed diverse spaces for various activities to cater for their growing family. Our plan provides an extended room where functions like dining, cooking and reading are supported by built-in furniture that the space slips, diverts and deflects around til reaching the sunken garden terrace. The new extension is finished in grey render with brass beads and has a large brass framed window seat overlooking the garden The rear garden was situated half a metre higher than the ground floor, so a new excavated seam is lined in bush-hammered limestone housing planters, steps and an outdoor dining bench.
